The Story Behind The Story:
Welcome to the story that
earned its name after it was complete. A Cry in the Night was my ninth submission, acceptance
and contract that found a home as part of the Tarot Series.
Thought of in late 2006, it was written, submitted, accepted, contracted
in December 2006, and published in November 2007.
I entwined
my father’s love of the old Werewolf with my version of the new Vampire.
So many Werewolves in today’s stories shift when they want because the
one thing that is supposed to rule them has been deemed a mere light in
the night sky. Nature’s power of full moons, lunar cycles and the tide
shifts are forces that should never lose their part in a creature
created to work with them. I took the Werewolves of days lost, from
times long ago and legends faded and brought them back. Now the Were,
the Beast and the Wolves need help. Only one legendary creature has ever
been able to tangle with a Beast and survive. Vampires. Once known as
healers in some ancient realms, they walk the earth and care for the
Were who cry out in the night, protect the Wolves lost to the feral side
and intercept the hunted the Beast in its bloodlust frenzied search for
Human flesh.
I always wondered what
happens if the blood of a Bitten warped the sanity then who steps in to save the
Beast tested and driven by the lunacy of the moon. The vampires do their best to
save the Were and Humans alike.
Story Meaning:
The
rise of the full moon fills Talen's hands with Liana
in some delightful ways.
Story Introduction:
His heart closed off when his love was stolen and his
focus on his job hindered, Talen turns the tables. The prospect of powerful
arms is strong temptation curbed by concern over her weight until Liana
becomes a werewolf in danger of the lunacy. With all hope of finding love
lost due to a strong fear of repeated pasts, Talen and Liana learn of love’s
ability to survive, but will love endure when the next rising of the full
moon tests their hearts as the vampire does his best to save the Were driven
by the lunacy of the moon?
The Hero:
Six foot tall, muscled and cursed, Talen is a vampire
with a tan complexion, dark sapphire eyes and deep golden-blond hair.
The Heroine:
Five foot
four, curvy and lonely, Lianna is a bitten with a tan complexion, bright
maple brown eyes and waist length light chestnut hair.

BLURB
Long before man knew of their existence, a bond formed which allowed
Vampires to protect the Bitten and destroy the Beast so the Were and
Humans survived.
Talen struggles to continue as a Gatherer after the loss of his
beloved. When a Bitten stirs his heart, moves his soul and ignites
his blood, he fears a repeat of the past, but fate tightens his
grip.
Liana longs for someone who will love all of her, plumpness
included. Can getting stuck with a handsome new boss change her life
forever?

TEASER
EXCERPT
Talen opened
the throttle and sped toward his destination. In a short time, he
slowed, turned onto Arbor Drive and scanned the picturesque area.
Situated in perfect little rows, the small, but quaint houses seemed
displayed, but cute. He smirked at the number one ninety-seven on an
arctic white mailbox.
Too cute.
The little powder blue Cape Cod house assessed as he passed, his
senses prickled the hair on the nape of his neck. He honed in on the
source. At the end of the street, he circled the cul-de-sac, drove
back, pulled over and parked under a large oak tree that sheltered
much of the road.
Talen turned
off his cycle and lifted his face shield. He looked up into the tree
above him and leveled his icy gaze on a young nightwalker he didn’t
trust. “Evening, Hunter.”
“Gatherer.”
His nod of recognition slight, Ditmyer turned his head toward the
woman’s house. “Looks like our prey isn’t happy with her caller.”
“She isn’t
anyone’s prey and she is my charge, not yours.” He
disregarded the shrug and focused his attention on the young woman
across the street.
The redheaded
vampire landed with almost no sound. “Little heavy for my taste.
Cute nightshirt though. She’s your problem. Don’t let her
become mine.”
Talen narrowed
his eyes. “Your threats are not welcome nor will your services be
needed. Hunter.”
Ditmyer
proffered a wry grin. “We’ll see.”
“Stay away,
Hunter.”
“The
Council gives me my orders. Not you, Gatherer.”
