Characters

Different Types of Heroes

To me, there are four:

1-assertive alpha cannot take orders, demands and refuses to acknowledge any weakness

2-benevolent beta can command or take orders and knows and acknowledges his weaknesses

3-generous gamma has the powerful qualities of an alpha tempered by that of the gentler beta

4-obliging omega is servile pleaser, but not enough to roll over and surrender

Living, Breathing Characters

Odd as it sounds, my characters come to life on their own. I might hear a phrase or song or see something in a dream or life and they live. The rest is the Hero and Heroine standing close and telling their story. Occasionally I have to heave a sigh to get them to slow down, but it’s worth it. The funny part is, if you read my books, the character you encounter is that character I worked with at that moment. There are times where the Heroine, especially the young, inexperienced one, might drive me insane or moments where the Hero, young and dominant, agitates me, but it’s part of them, their ways and the path they walked. I don’t create them, they are and they live. I do have to look over my shoulder every now and then because I have this...supervising, lurking…muse, he frowned, who has not spoken a single word. He has a nice smile, but can be unnerving at the worst of times. Sometimes I think he’s what keeps the others in line…or is he waiting to see who tells what and try to better their story? *shiver*

Discovering Love

What I write consists of couples who discover love. I adore each hero and heroine in my books and many of my secondary characters, too. I put my heart and soul into every book I write. I cheer when my characters fall in love. My characters live and breathe. They have prowled through my dreams and stalked my days. When my characters want attention, I give it as it lets me tell their story better. My favorite foods for my characters to play with are the typical whipped topping, chocolate and strawberries, but my absolute favorite eating item to put in any scene is the characters!

First Time

I started my first story in 1991 and since then it has been forever dubbed, The Book. It is now properly titled Touch of Earth. This story evolved from a dream that would not leave me alone. Haunted for weeks on end by this dark and devastating vision of future earth, I created a web page titled Nature’s Plea where the dream is revealed. It wasn’t enough. Two of the characters from that dream came to life and demanded I tell their story. I lived through those dreams on a nightly basis and the only way to get them to leave me in peace was to write them down. Hence, The Cursed Hit and The Blessed Return. These were based on the Y2K theory and postponed when that date slipped past. Now, with a little rewriting and time shifting, I’ll adjust any given dates, years and events to work off the 12/21/2012.

Similarities

Arravis and Dodger are similar. Arravis is from Zendara and I love him dearly. His close counterpart, Dodger, is from Touch of Earth. They resemble my husband, very much the playful, will listen, can protect, loving guy. How can I not adore them?

Demanding Alphas

I have a very demanding alpha who insisted on his way and, until I relented, refused to speak to me. I also endure two alpha males, one sweet, but cold, the other, a bad boy, both refused to tell me their names until the end of the story! A Light in the Dark wasn't too bad when it was less than 50K, but the 217K made me glad I was dealing with Raz from Touch of Earth. Alpha males, what would we do without them? One minute they deserve a glare...until they pout, then they need held.

Favorite Heroes

I like all my written heroes, but if forced to pick a favorite, it is Tarmathian from A Second Chance: Tarot - King of Cups. Tarmathian is a cross between all the best traits of my father and husband. He was wonderful to write and his quiet demeanor, well, it definitely kept me on the alert, but he never was really dangerous…unless the wrong sort crossed his path. My favorite living hero is my husband because he's always there, encourages me and supports me.

My stories are because the characters tell me their story and I am merely the scribe. Imagine a campfire with several logs surrounding it and the characters seated as couples with the secondary characters behind them. Their laughter, rich and warm or soft and gentle, fill the area as each relay their first encounter, best battle moment and other such splendid memories. It is quite a collection of various worlds with rakish knights, feisty women, dashing lords, lively ladies, naughty kings, spirited queens, royal rogues and extraordinary folk where a reader comes face-to-face with dragons, elves, vampires and shape-shifters.
