The Story Behind
The Story:
Welcome to the story that
came out without a name. A Light in the Dark was my sixth
submission, acceptance and contract that found a home as part of the
Tarot Series.
Thought of in late 2004, it was written, submitted,
accepted, contracted in November 2005, published in October 2006.
The story didn’t even have a name until after it
was submitted. My publisher can tell you, I originally submitted it as
‘Unnamed’. Even the hero (author grumbling, “And let me tell you, he was!
Tormentor!”) didn’t have a name until he revealed it… on the last page. He did
live up to his title.
Story Meaning:
A White Wave shines on the The Lord of
Darkness as he meets his match.
Story Introduction:
With his
ability to negotiate as a concealed weapon, a warrior-mage cursed and
gifted with the unique and powerful blood of dragons, the Lord of
Darkness circles his prey in search of an opening. A priestess of
unequalled power and a hidden secret, her mind her most powerful weapon,
the Lady of Light discovers the shield around her heart isn’t
impenetrable. Fate demands attention and causes a collision between
Douglass and Vanora in more ways than one
in a realm where shadow is deceptive and only
the dark empowers the light.
The Hero:
Six foot four, a massive build and exiled for his birthright,
Douglass is a warrior-mage with a dark tan complexion, obsidian eyes and
shoulder blade length black hair.
The Heroine:
Five foot one, voluptuous and strong, Vanora is a
priestess of fair complexion, silvery-white eyes flecked with
opalescence and waist length platinum hair.
Tarot Series
Special Mention:
Pete Willis for immeasurable patience, exquisite teaching, remarkable
skill and extraordinary talent. Melynda and Garrett for being the
readers who endured all.

BLURB
Rare
in her world, Vanora, the Lady of Light, finds peace among nature.
When a man comes seeking help and asks her to join forces with a
soul unlike any other, she finds herself faced with a confrontation
she never expected and a challenge she stands to lose.
Uncontested
in his domain, Douglass, the Lord of Darkness unexpectedly is faced with
circumstances providing the opportunity to meet his greatest opposition and
form an alliance, both from sources he has long desired to meet.
When
destruction takes it toll, sometimes light needs the dark upon which to
reveal the source.

TEASER EXCERPT
“My lady.” Douglass sidestepped,
strode to the cave and plopped the visitor on the nearest bedroll.
With a snap of his fingers, he appeared in the feisty royal tart’s
path and seized her waist. His growl deep, he unceremoniously slung
her over his shoulder with less regard than a miller showed a sack
of flour. He lengthened his strides for the nearby lake. “Woman, you
need taught some manners before someone other than me takes a
disliking to you.”
Infuriated by his audacity, she
pounded her fists on his broad muscular back. His virile scent
assailed her nostrils. “Put me down this instant, you wretched foul
brute!”
“You’re full of insults.” He popped
her backside with his unoccupied hand. His strike possibly too hard,
he debated an apologetic rub of the tender area.
Furious, Vanora clenched her teeth.
“Don’t you ever do that again.”
His temptation vanquished, Douglass
never broke his stride. “Have you run out of insults?”
She snapped, “I’m just getting warmed
up, you horrid lout.”
He stopped at the lake’s edge. “Then
I’ll cool you off the old-fashioned way.”
Vanora twisted and ascertained her
location. “You wouldn’t. You can’t!”
Amused
by the desperation in her voice, Douglass grinned. “I can and I
will.” His toss of her effortless, he nodded as she landed in the
chilly water and dusted off his hands. “Suits you well, I might
add.”
